The Mac Logic Board is easily the most expensive piece of a Mac laptop. Clocking in at about $499 for a new one, it can be tempting to repair it yourself. However, diagnosing the problem can be extremely hard, which is why that part should be left to a professional. If you can take your Mac to a repair center and convince them to tell you exactly what is wrong, you have a shot at fixing it yourself.
Difficulty: ChallengingInstructions1Take the laptop to a professional repair shop. You will need to tell them what's wrong exactly with the logic board. If they refuse, try another shop. Unless you are extremely well verses in repairing Macs, you won't be able to diagnosis the problem yourself due to the complexity of the Logic Board.
2Order the parts you need to replace from one of the several on-line retailers that offer Mac parts for sale. Make sure it comes with an instruction manual. Without one, you risk completely destroying your logic board.
3Before proceeding, ground yourself. Use a wooden floor and table for your workspace and ground yourself by clipping a non-static bracelet to something grounded. If you don't do this, you risk sending a static shock though the entire computer and destroying most of the components.
4Open the computer case and remove the Logic Board carefully.
5Remove the old, damaged component carefully, making sure not to break off any parts in the process.
6Install the new component in exactly the same orientation as the old one, making exactly the same connections.
